Sending money home
Once a month, we go stand in line with the other immigrant workers to wire money home. This is what it looks like our side, the women’s side, of the counter.
Full-featured work visas (called Iqamas) are slow coming in Saudi, so most enter on a 90-day work visit visa. This visa can be extended multiple times, so that’s what normally happens.
Our visa type is fine for working, but it doesn’t allow us to open a bank account. So, we are paid in cash and wire money where we want it to go…which gives me empathy for undocumented workers at home, who must go through this and much more hassle.
