Poem: I’ll Hum a Lullaby

My day is your night
I’ll hum a lullaby
While you float along
In peaceful sleep
Sweet dreams
I’m waiting for you
On the other side
No hurry
Take your time
So you can wake refreshed
Until then
When I think of you
I’ll hum a lullaby

About the poem:
I first noticed this phenomenon when I was in Ghana. I would wake up early in the morning and want to call home, but it was the middle of the night in the U.S. So, I would coast through the morning, time and time again starting to call, then stopping myself. It’s not a bad feeling, it’s just that sometimes you want to call someone right then to share something …and you can’t.  It reminds me of waiting quietly for a sleeping baby to wake up.

Now, back from Korea, it’s the morning and afternoon that are those hours for me. Those hours feel a little longer, but somehow peaceful as I imagine them deep in a restful sleep, knowing we’ll chat soon!
