Poem: Fiction

image

How much of my life is real?
The stories I tell
Are they fiction, mystery, fantasy
They seem so real
But then
I wonder
Did they actually happen to me?

About the poem:
This is a photo from my beloved Cherry Creek Library. I grew up in the neighborhood. My sister and I are so close in age, there are some stories we agree on, but we can’t recall who was who in the story!

Byron Katie’s work is masterful in presenting techniques for unraveling the stories we tell ourselves. It’s easy to get all worked up about them, but the more I dig, the more I’m not sure what really happened and why. This gives me a peaceful place of inquiry, as a respite from some of the more thrilling tales I weave.
