Poem: Chainsaw Editing

I need to trim my
To Do List
With a chainsaw

I need to rename it to
100 Things to Do Before I Die
And cross out
Today’s date

About the poem:
I once read a great analysis of the truism, “It doesn’t hurt to be optimistic!” The point was that being wildly optimistic can at times hurt. That by being unrealistic, you are not being truthful with yourself.

Whoa now, don’t get upset! I didn’t say, don’t be optimistic. I’m just saying, accept your tendency to think you can do a lot more than you probably can. And be happy with what you can do. And get back to your “to be” list.

Laugh at yourself, baby! Don’t take it all so seriously. (..these things I remind myself regularly!)
