Poem: Please don’t talk to me like that

It may seem like a little thing to say,
Don’t talk to me like that.
To ask, to notify,
Please don’t talk to me like that
But that little request turns the tide.
With that little request I got back on my side.

I watched years fall away
Autumn leaves beneath my feet
Biting my tongue
Wishing no one would talk to me like that

Disapointment in those words was fleeting
Disappointment in myself was not
Wishing no one would talk to me like that
But lacking courage to eek
Or squeak or speak

Finally I made the request
Please don’t talk to me like that
The disappointment spiraled away on the breeze
Perhaps it landed on someone else’s day
Out of my reach

With that little request
I became my own friend
Standing up for justice
Wrestling into a place of peace
By asking simply please
Don’t talk to me like that

  1. This is a great one Joan. We often should think of our thoughts before we speak. I am often very quick to speak. I am trying more often to stop and think and then speak. Thanks for sharing Joan.
