Petite purple petals
Whiffable, sniffable
Lilacs in bloom


About the poem:
The smell of lilacs takes me back to the alley behind my house where I grew up in Denver. Lilacs bloomed at a time when we started playing basketball in the alley again and roller skated and bicycled with friends again. Yet, we still stopped to smell and sometimes taste the nectar of the fleeting, but powerful lilacs.
